“Well, well, well. Look who finally made it home.” Bonnie is sitting upright on the couch when I step inside my condo, as if she’s purposely been waiting for me. “You know, it’s pretty bad when I have to find out from your famous boyfriend’s bodyguard that you’ve left for the night.”

“He’s not my boyfriend,” I groan, suffering from quite possibly the worst headache of my life.

“You could have at least texted,” she playfully scolds.

“My phone died.” I slip off my shoes before quickly collapsing down on the opposite end of the couch from her. “And last I checked, you were busy with a famous playboy of your own.”

“Oh girl, that man did things to my body… Let me just tell you.” She fans her face.

“Please don’t.” I press a palm to my forehead.

“Feeling a little hungover today?” she teases.

“A little? Try, I feel like someone put my entire body through a crushing machine,” I whine.

“Didn’t lover boy offer you any Tylenol before bringing you home?”

“No, because I snuck out while he was still asleep. Thankfully, Micah was coming in as I was going out and I pretty much forced him to give me a ride home.”

“What? Why?” She laughs.

“Because I’m mortified.” I drop my head into my hands. “You saw me last night, Bon. I was a hot freaking mess. I can’t even remember half of what I said to him last night, but I’m pretty sure none of it was good.”

“Tell me what you remember?”

“Please don’t make me. It’s bad enough that it’s swimming around in my head. I don’t want to have to say it out loud too. It’s too embarrassing.”

“It can’t be that bad.” She laughs. “I mean, I rode a man’s dick like a bull rider last night after knowing him all of twenty minutes. How bad could it be?”

“I think I might have insinuated that I was falling for him,” I groan.

“What do you mean, you think you insinuated?” She arches a perfectly shaped brow.

“Something about kryptonite and I said he was mine. God, I can’t even remember exactly what was said. But I remember this look he gave me. I can’t explain it but out of everything, it’s the one thing that I can see clear as day. He looked… I don’t know, fearful.”

“Maybe he’s afraid of how you make him feel.”

“Or maybe it’s because he realized he had a stage five clinger in his possession and wasn’t quite sure how to get rid of her.”

“Why would he want to get rid of you when he came there last night looking for you?”

“How do you know that?”

“Because as Beckett and I were looking for a more private place,” she gives me a sly smile, “we ran into Treyton.”

“That’s how he knew it was you with Beckett.” I slide a puzzle piece into place. “What did you say to him?”

“That he needed to grovel or he was going to blow his shot with you.”

“And?” I ask, simply because I know Bonnie too well to know that’s not all she said.
